Presented by Woodlands Golf Club – Tuesday, 23rd January, 2018

Woodlands Golf Club, located on the famed Melbourne Sandbelt, has introduced a new event aimed at Junior Girls on higher handicaps, and beginners. This short form of the game has not been offered by any other club in Australia, as far as we know, and this one seems ideal for new girl golfers.

Girls on GA 16.2 and above will be able to enter a six hole stableford competition, while simultaneously, girls between 10 and 17 years of age, who have not yet gained an official handicap, will be able to play a six holes modified game on the Woodlands short course. The date of the event will be Tuesday, 23rd January, 2018.

Golf Victoria supports this initiative to grow junior girls’ participation and will be taking registrations at www.golfvic.org.au. Ben Sweeney, GV Development Manager, says there are very few events run specially for this group of girls. With a shootout to find the individual winner, the day sounds like a lot of fun, as well as an opportunity for girls to experience a premier golf course in Melbourne. There is even a gold-plated, diamond encrusted putter, as the perpetual trophy.

The Board at Woodlands recognises that the sport and the club need to encourage more women and girls to develop their games and to feel comfortable playing on a big course. The Women’s Captain, Jen Ashman, came up with the idea to promote the game by conducting an event using a shortened form of the game. The Board has embraced the idea and formed an organising committee, headed by Jen and Kay Mahlook, who are both on the Golf Club Board.

The main aim of the day will be to enjoy the course, to have fun and to witness the shoot-out. Every player will receive a memento of their day. The entry fee is just $15pp to cover their game and lunch.

For parents and guardians that attend, the Club will be providing a 1 hour golf clinic that caters for a range of golfing abilities. The clinic will be run while the players are on course, if you would like to take part in the clinic please contact the proshop (9580 1157) to reserve your spot on Tuesday the 23rd January.
